During our recent visit to Key Largo, we decided to try Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen. We had heard many good things about this restaurant but had never actually gone. In addition to the recommendations it ranks 3rd on Tripadvisor which is one of our favorite tools for finding good restaurants when we travel.
The restaurant has been around since 1976 and is located on mile marker 99.
The restaurant serves a variety of food but we were in the Keys so we were looking for seafood and boy did we find it!
Being a lobster lover I saw this and immediately gravitated towards it. Excellent rock lobster cooked, then chopped up and sauteed with a creamy sauce including sherry wine. It is then baked in the shell with some cheese on top. Rich in flavor and boy was it GOOD!
Parmesan Crusted Hog Snapper
Hog snapper is typically touted as THE BEST tasting of all snapper. Oddly enough it’s not common to see it on menus and that is typically because it’s also not common to catch it with your typical line and hook. Hog snapper is more commonly caught locally by jumping in the water and spear-fishing for them.
This Hog was a good size portion and the flavors were phenomenal. It is not a regular item on the menu and was one of the specials of the day.
Oddly enough they claim to have World Famous Key Lime Pie, but we were so full we had no room for it. Instead we figured we’d pick some up on Sunday on the way home only to find out that they close Sundays. So keep this in mind if you are thinking about visiting.
While visiting the Keys definitely stop into Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen!
