Four Points by Sheraton Niagara Falls – Review

We stayed at this hotel during our trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls. The cost was only 3,000 points per night since we booked right before SPG’s annual category adjustment points devaluation. The hotel was very busy, with lots of guests coming in and out, and lots of kids too.

Getting there:

The property is about 5 minutes out of Niagara Falls, and about a 25-minute drive from Buffalo International Airport. A cab ride will get pretty expensive, so a rental car is strongly recommended. You’ll need it anyway to go check out the local attractions. The check-in was fast and easy. We requested late check-out, which we could get with our SPG Gold status achieved last year with my mattress run.

Amenities:

The hotel has free self-parking, complimentary high-speed Wifi, fitness center, a full service  restaurant and an indoors heated swimming pool. It also has a couple of public computers (I can’t bring myself to call a desk with two computers and a printer a “business center”) where you can print your boarding passes for free and save time at the airport. As a welcome gift we also received a complimentary glass of locally brewed better, which I have to say was pretty amazing.

We tried the restaurant, and we really do not recommend it. Just about everything we tried was bland. I know from experience not to eat at hotel restaurants in general, but we did for convenience and we regretted it. It was the only thing we did not really like about this hotel. The good thing about eating at the hotel restaurant is being able to charge it to the room, which will get you 3 SPG points per dollar being an SPG Gold member.

The room:

We got a room on the top floor, which is the one reserved for SPG members.

The room was very modern. It was at the end of the hallway so foot traffic was minimal. I like King size beds but at that point I didn’t feel like going back to the front desk and some rooms on that floor had connecting doors, which is a big no-no for me as they are noisier.

The view from the room was nice, overlooking Lake Erie.

The shower and sink were sort of puzzling. They each only had one faucet, so you have to first turn it on, go through the cold water, and then keep turning for warm and hot water. It took me a while to figure it out.

The bathroom had the heavenly shower and heavenly bathrobes, although we only got one. The room also had a small fridge with an icebox.

We also received a choice of welcome gift for our SPG Gold status, so we took the 125 bonus points. At this hotel you can also decline housekeeping service for 250 bonus points, so we did just that.

The service at the hotel was really good and the staff was very attentive, and I would definitely recommend it if you’re in the area. If you want to plan a weekend at Niagara Falls, the best way to stay at this hotel for free is to start by getting the SPG Amex personal card. After meeting the required minimum spending you will have enough points for a 3-night stay while you experience the beauty of this American natural wonder.
