A hidden gem – Element Miami International Airport Review

We stayed at this property with the purpose of achieving Gold status with SPG for the year 2013. Originally we just wanted  a cheap stay on points that would count towards qualification, and that’s what we did. A one-night reward stay at this Category 2 property costs only 3,000 points. We were in for a really pleasant surprise.

Getting there:

The hotel is pretty much hidden in a street adjacent to South River Dr., just east of Miami International Airport. Parking is $9 per day and there’s plenty of spaces. The hotel also offers something unique, which is special rates for guests cruising out of  the port of Miami, where they will include one-way transportation to the port and included parking at the hotel for up to 7 nights, so you can leave your car at the hotel and not have to pay the exorbitant port parking fees. The hotel also has free breakfast and free high-speed internet, and they were both very good.

The check-in process was simple and quick, and the staff was very friendly and had very good room suggestions when I asked them which one I should get. The lobby is well lit, very modern, with plenty of couches, modern chairs and meeting tables, a big screen TV, and a view to the pool. There is a small market where you can buy snacks and drinks for the room. The fitness center is near the lobby, and it had plenty of equipment and lots of space.

The Room:

We were shocked to walk into such a great, fancy and clean room for only 3,000 SPG points. The room was actually a one-bedroom suite. It was very modern and it had a fully-equipped kitchen, two TVs, large fridge, dishes and silverware, cooking utensils, dishwasher and all other necessities. It also had a working desk, and a folding 4-person dining-room table with 4 neat ottoman-like chairs. The bathroom and the glass-door shower were huge. The best part: The windows were sound-proof, so even with planes taking off nearby, we couldn’t hear them!

The next morning we woke up at 9:30 a.m. and went straight for breakfast as the cutoff was 10:00 a.m. I had asked for late check out just to enjoy the hotel a couple of more hours and we just stayed in the room until 1:30 p.m. On the way out we visited the pool, which was spacious and quiet, and the fitness room.

Overall impression:

This was an excellent, nice and relaxing weekend stay for the purpose that we needed, which was to obtain SPG Gold status. However, it is also a great option when visiting Miami. By taking advantage of SPG’s 5th night free promotion, anyone visiting Miami can stay at this hotel for 5 nights for a total of only 12,000 SPG points. With free airport shuttle, internet and breakfast, plus fully-equipped kitchens so you can save some money on food, it just doesn’t get any better than this when you’re traveling on a budget.
