Earn 3 points per dollar at hotels when using your Ink card

Yesterday I received an email from Chase offering an extra point per dollar spent on hotels when you book hotel accommodations via the Ultimate Rewards portal.

Chase-InkThe email fine print doesn’t say whether the offer is targeted, so I would check your inbox and spam mail to see if you received a similar offer, or would call Chase at the number on your card to see if you qualify.

The Chase Ink cards already earn 2 points per dollar at hotels and gas stations, so earning 3 points per dollar is a nice added bonus. Ultimate Reward points are my favorite type of points currency, as they are flexible and can be transferred 1:1 to many hotel and airline programs such as United, Southwest, Marriott, IHG and Hyatt, among others.

If you’re taking advantage of this offer, be careful and make sure you research the prices first. I ran a quick search for a sample property (I used the Hyatt Regency Bellevue) and the prices were nowhere near comparable. The Ultimate Rewards price was $394.83 per night and the Hyatt website showed rates as low as $222 per night (prepaid), which isn’t even in the same ballpark.

I subsequently searched for a few properties on South Beach Miami and some were higher but some were same or cheaper on Ultimate Rewards site.

Not a huge deal, but if you are booking a hotel anyways it’s worth checking to see if you can earn an extra Ultimate Reward point per dollar.
