Bad News Bears – Delta raises Sky Club annual membership and will eliminate Amex Platinum cardholder free guest access

Hat tip to one of our readers for forwarding us an email he just received from Delta with bad news. Effective immediately, Sky Club membership for those with no status has been raised to $695 per year.

Delta is introducing an additional option for “customers who rarely need guest access”, where you can pay an annual membership of $450 but you will then not be allowed to bring any guests into the club unless you pay $29 for each.

Diamonds still get free access.

Also effective 5/1/14, guests traveling with Amex Platinum cardholders will no longer have access to the Sky Club for free. They will be able to access the club for a $29 fee per guest.

Delta says that the reason for these changes is that its members complain of “overcrowding”.

Here’s a copy of the email text:

Let’s just hope that in an attempt to compete Amex starts building more and more of these sweet Centurion Lounges. If that ends up being the case, then Delta can keep its Sky Club Bud Lights and pretzels since no one will want them anyway.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s worded that AMEX Platinum card holder has free access but their guests are $29 each
