Easiest way to earn 140,000 – 280,000 Hilton points

Hilton Honors points aren’t as valuable as they used to be, but 140,000 points will still get you quite a few nights of free stays, and there’s a very easy way to get them. You can get 140,000 points by applying for both the Bank of America Hawaiian Airlines VISA Signature card and the Bank of Hawaii VISA Signature card (which is also a product of Bank of America) on the same day. Both offers are identical, and will get you 20,000 Hawaiian Airlines miles on each card when you use them for the first time, and another 15,000 miles when you spend $1,000 on each card within the first 4 months of getting the cards. So, after you have spend $2,000 in total ($1,000 in each card) you will get a total of 70,000 Hawaiian Airlines miles.

After you get all your miles, call Hawaiian Airlines at tell them you want to transfer them to Hilton Honors, which is one of their transfer partners. Hawaiian Airlines miles transfer to Hilton Honors on a 1:2 basis, which means that you can then turn 70,000 Hawaiian miles into 140,000 Hilton Honors points.

For example, you can get a three-night stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square in NY in May 2013 for a total of 120,000 Hilton points (40,000 per night). A standard room at that hotel for those dates currently retails at $379 per night, so you save a total of $1,137.

This is just a random example of how you can use your points. Hilton is a very large chain with several brands in just about every city in the U.S. and internationally, so you can use the points to search for the free stay that makes the most sense to you and redeem them accordingly. If you want to do even more, have your spouse apply for the same two cards above independently, do the same trick, and end up with a combined total of 280,000 Hilton points for only $4,000 of spending in 4 months. That’s $1,000 a month in spending. Most of us spend at least that much on a monthly basis without breaking a sweat.

On a future post, we will explain how to get an even more amazing value for the trip of a lifetime for only 140,000 Hilton points.
